NORTHEN SPLENDOUR
                                     INTRODUCTION OF PERLIS

Perlis may be the smallest state in Malaysia, but it boasts a wealth of natural, cultural and historical splendours that rival the bigger states. You may be mesmerised by the many quaint villages, picturesque scenery and centuries-old traditions wherever you go.


Perlis lies at the northwestern tip of the Malay Peninsula; bounded by Thailand in the north, and by Kedah to the east and south. Its western coastline borders the Straits of Melaka. The state capital is Kangar while Arau, 10km away, is the Royal town.


CULTURES
1) TRADITIONAL DANCE


This dance is like Mak Inang dance, but possess distinctive difference namely his inventors creative work until become a native dance for Perlis state.

This dance was a popular one upon time until it is considered as folk dance. Presentation is on stage erected within it is performed on a stage that is being constructed in the village or in the middle of the rice field.This dance is being danced together with other folk dance, usually performed after the rice harvest, or at wedding ceremonies.


2) TRADITIONAL GAMES

Keeping birds especially Merbok or cuckoo is a favourite among the society here since long time. To ago own a bird with sweet voice is a desirable and brings pride to the owner of the bird.
In Perlis State, for a long time , whistleing of birds was one form of entertainment apart from other resources like traditional music created by main flute, clarinet, violin, gong and drum. Voice and whisthing of bird is on eternal music to mankind.


ATTRACTION PLACES

1) CHUPING SUGARCANE PLANTATION


Called name Chuping is adopted in conjuction with the name of a limestone hill which is Bukit Chuping.Here,we can find 22,000 hectares of sugarcane farm for manufacturing sugar.This sugarcane plantation is located 23 kms to the north of Kangar,Perlis and it takes about 30 minutes ride from Kangar City Centre.


                                                                                                      

2) TIMAH TASOH DAM
Timah Tasoh Dam is of course listed in your mind as a peaceful heaven. the RM 77 milion worth dam, which was built in 1987, strecthes as wide as 13.3 kilometers square consisting of man- made lake in Beseri area started operating in 1992. It is a catchment of rain water centre for of water people of Perlis. This dam can hold as much as 33.3 millions cubic meters.

3) SNAKE AND REPTILE 

This snake park was built as a result of research on the habitat species of snake species found in Malaysia.It is the largest Breeding and Snake Research in Malaysia.Here,we can find more than 20 species of snakes and also other species such as alligators,horse iguanas,tortoises,otters .

3) PADANG BESAR
Padang Besar is located 37 kms from Kangar town, Perlis, and close to the branch of abbuting Thailand.It is both entry and exit points to Malaysia and neighbouring countries. Padang Besar is among the famous location s which offers open market. Here, there are lots of stalls which sell various goods at cheap price.Most things sold here are imported from Thailand. There are clothings,decorative things,home furnishing,games,leather goods and also food.



LOCAL DISHES
1) HARUMANIS


Harumanis mango farm is one of the main product in perlis. It islocated in Bukit Bintang area ,Sungai Batu Pahat. It can be enjoyed once a year around March - June .





           
2) LAKSA KUALA PERLIS

Laksa Kuala Perlis is a famous dish in Perlis. This laksa is made of rice flour, with its savory so appetizing when eaten. Laksa makes use a certain mould to produce strings of Laksa. The savory is made from boiled fish, ground and cooked with its ingredients



3)  SEAFOOD 



Seafood
 is very well-known along the shore of Kuala Perlis.Seafood is served fresh here in  various dishes.A variety of food is prepared in order to meet visitor's appetite.Tourists can enjoy seafood while experiencing sea breeze at night.
